Informed consent is linked to the principle of autonomy, being a key to perform interventions in health and research. In the field of psychology, informed consent has been a key to help the persons to get the right information and understanding that enable them to decide about their health or to agree to take part in research. To provide suitable information to patients, educational level, ability to understand and legal and sociocultural factors must be taken in account. Every person should be fully informed about the procedure which he/she is subject, explaining the benefits, risks, possible outcomes and alternatives. Some psychologist have reacted against the regulations of the informed consent made by COLPSIC in Colombia. Objective: Make a revision of the theory about informed consent to understand its development, characteristics and consequences of it in Psychology. Methods: A literature review in PubMed, Ebscoltost, Dialnet, Elsevier, Sciencie Direct, and Google Scholar databases; using the terms: Informed consent, psychology and patient autonomy. The selected articles had to be reviews or investigations in Latin America and more specifically in Colombia that is the focus country of this study. The articles had to be published in English or Spanish. Gray literature has been used and included in the bibliography section at the end of this text. Conclusion: The use of informed consent is regulated by ley 1090 of 2006. There has been a discussion about the use of a written document in psychology due to several difficulties profesionals ague not only in clinical attention but also in different psychology fields.

El consentimiento informado está ligado al el principio de autonomía, siendo clave para poder realizar intervenciones en salud e investigación. En Psicología, el consentimiento informado ha sido fundamental para poder ayudar al individuo a obtener la adecuada información y comprensión que le permita decidir frente a su estado de salud o aceptar participar en investigación. Para brindar la información adecuada a los pacientes, se debe tener en cuenta el nivel educativo, la capacidad de comprensión, factores legales y socioculturales. Toda persona debe ser informada a fondo sobre el procedimiento al cual estará sometida, explicando los beneficios, riesgos, posibles resultados y alternativas. En Colombia algunos psicólogos han reaccionado en contra de la reglamentación del consentimiento informado por el COLPSIC. Objetivo: Revisar el estado del arte acerca del consentimiento informado para comprender su surgimiento, características e implicaciones en la atención en psicología. Metodología: Revisión de la literatura en las bases de datos Pubmed, Ebscohost, Dialnet, Elsevier, Science Direct, y Google Académico; empleando los términos: Consentimiento informado, psicología, autonomía y pacientes. Los artículos seleccionados debían ser revisiones de tema o investigaciones en Latinoamérica y más específicamente en Colombia que es el país de importancia en este estudio, publicados en inglés o español. Se ha usado literatura gris incluida en el apartado de referencias al final de este texto. Conclusiones: En Colombia el uso consentimiento informado está reglamentado por la ley 1090 de 2006. Ha surgido una discusión que aún no concluye acerca de la necesidad de un contrato escrito en psicología argumentando varias dificultades que se presentan no solo en clínica sino en diferentes campos de acción de la psicología.
